This article is intended for Texas parents of students with disabilities.
Applicants with an individualized education program (IEP) on file with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) at the time prioritization may qualify for additional TEFA funding in an amount not to exceed $30,000 per school year. We encourage you to work with your local school district as soon as possible in order to obtain your child’s IEP and to make certain that it is on file with TEA before the application window closes. You must complete this process before the program determines prioritization in order to receive the additional funding in the upcoming school year. An IEP cannot be submitted for additional funding after the application window closes.
Parents of a child with a qualifying disability who does not have an IEP on file with TEA may submit a form with their application that provides verification of the disability. While only those eligible participants with an IEP on file with TEA will be eligible for the additional funding amount, those children with a disability documented on the program form are eligible for inclusion in the priority group for children with a disability who are members of a household with income at or below 500% of the federal poverty level.
