This article is intended for Texas parents to help them understand the funding amounts for TEFA.
The amount that will be held in trust for a participating child depends on the student’s situation:
- Private school students: 85% of the statewide average amount of state and local funding per student in Texas public schools, estimated at around $10,800 for the 2026-27 school year. The Texas Education Agency will determine the exact amount for the first year of the program in January 2026.
- Students who have an individualized education plan on file with their school district: up to $30,000 per year.
- All other participating students: up to $2,000 per year.
If a child enrolls in the program after the beginning of a school year, funds transferred to the participating student’s account will be pro-rated based on the date the child enrolls in the program.
