This article explains professional licenses or qualifying credentials that are required for certain service providers under TAC §61.104(4).
Who Must Meet This Requirement
A license or qualifying credential is required for:
- Private tutors
- Therapists
- Teaching service providers
For teaching services, each employee providing educational services to participating students must independently meet the requirements below.
Qualification Criteria for Tutors and Teaching Service Providers
Tutors and teaching service providers in Texas must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Educator Status
Currently employed by, or retired from, a school accredited by the agency, an organization recognized by the agency, or an organization recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission. - Professional License or Accreditation
Holds a valid teaching license or relevant accreditation issued by a state, regional, or national certification or accreditation organization. - Higher Education Employment
Currently employed in, or retired from, a teaching or tutoring role at a higher education institution.
Therapist Licensing Requirements
Therapists must hold an active professional license in their field.
Examples may include:
- Speech therapy licenses
- Occupational therapy licenses
- Physical therapy licenses
- Counseling or mental health licenses
The license must be active and relevant to the services being provided.
Documentation Requirements
Applicants must upload documentation showing they meet the applicable requirements above. Documentation must clearly identify the individual and the qualifying credential or employment status.
